Use of the German Institute for Japanese Studies Library

If you are a student, a faculty, or a staff of Sophia University, you can enter and use DIJ library only by presenting your ID card. See below for how to use the library.

1. Admission to the library

Entrance is located on 3rd basement floor of Kioizaka building. Tell purpose for visiting to the staff at the library entrance and present your ID card.

  • Opening hours:  Monday~Friday 10:00~16:00
  • Library closed:  Saturdays, Sundays, National holidays, Easter holidays, Christmas, Year-end and New Year holidays, other German holidays

2. How to use the library

Browsing

You may browse books and periodicals. The collections are;

  • Publications about Japan written in German
  • Publications related to German-Japan relations, Europe-Japan relations, and Western studies
  • Reference books corresponding its area of investigation (Japanology)

Check-out

You can borrow up to 5 materials for 2 weeks.

Photocopying

Photo copy machines are available in the library. It costs 10 yen per sheet.

Reference services

Reference service is available during its opening hours.
