Checkout and Return

 

1. Circulation Policy / Check-out

Please use automatic check out machines beside the 1F Circulation Counter when you borrow books.

<Materials cannot be checked out>

- Reference materials, Rare books, Semi-rare books, Wasobon(books printed and bound in Japanese style)、Periodicals (both current and bound), Newspapers(both current and reduced size edition), Bulletins, Master/ Doctor thesis, Audio-Visual materials.

 

Service Hours (During the term in session)
  • 9:00 a.m. - 22:00 p.m. (Mon. - Fri.)
  • 9:00 a.m. - 18:00 p.m. (Sat.)
Copying

Coin-operated photocopying machines are available for self-service use on each floor. Copies can be made only in accordance with the provisions of the Copyright Law. Staff-operated photocopying service is available on the 5F of Central Library.

2. Loan period, Number of books that may be borrowed

*Exchange students, Non-Degree students, Auditing students, Tocology major students, and Students of junior college division are based on undergraduate students for loan period and number of books that may be borrowed.
*If you keep books beyond the due date, your borrowing privileges suspended as many days as the books are overdue.

 

3. Renewal of loan period

You can renew book you borrowed for one more period. Please follow either procedure;

i. Renew by automatic check out machine. You need to bring the book you will renew.
ii. Use My OPAC online service (See 9. My OPAC online service)

You cannot renew book if;

* Books are overdue
* Your borrowing privileges suspended
* Book is reserved by someone else
* You request renewal for more than once repeatedly

4. Book return

Please note for following when you return book;

- Return book to the Book Return corner at the 1F Circulation Counter.
- When the library is closed, please use the book return slot on the left side of the main entrance.
- Put materials to the book trucks on their floors after you use them in the library.

Please realize that your borrowing privileges will be suspended if you keep a book beyond its due date.

 

5. Material in compact stack (Central Library / Building no.2)

Please follow the procedure if you need material in compact stack;

- Copy the application form from its OPAC ”holdings information” screen. Fill out the form and submit it to the staff in the circulation counter. We will get the material for you.
- Receive material at the circulation counter.
- You cannot check out periodical, newspaper, audio-visual material, or reference material. Please return them after you use to the circulation counter.

<Material in Building no.2 compact stack >

- Faculty of Sophia University may request to use the material in building no.2 compact stack by Facsimile. Plaese use <Application form>
- You may apply up to 5 materials at once.
- Service is provided from Monday to Saturday during the service hours of the circulation counter. We go and collect material four times in a day through Monday to Friday. When you request on Saturday, you can get material on next weekday from 10:00.

<Material in Central Library compact stack >

- Service is provided from Monday to Saturday during the service hours of circulation counter.
- You may apply up to 5 materials at once.
- We go and collect material when you requested on weekday. When you request material on Saturday, you can get material on next weekday from 10:00.

<How to use/ check out>

You may receive the material at the circulation counter. Only for the outside user, please receive the material at the reference counter.

6. Check out reserve book

Reserve book is a book designated by professor for class use. It is kept inside the circulation counter.

How to borrow reserve book

- Please tell staff in the circulation counter the name of professor and the title of the book you would like to use.
- Loan period of reserve book is classified into 3; Library use only, 1 day or 3 days.
- You can borrow up to 4 reserve books. This is distinguished from usual check-out.
- Reserve books cannot be reserved nor renewed.

 

7. Reservation

You can reserve a book which has been checked out.

- Use My OPAC online service (See 9. My OPAC online service)
- Notify you by email after the book you requested returned. Please pick it up to the circulation counter. Staff will keep it for a week.
- Please offer staff of circulation counter immediately if you cancel the reservation.

8. Delivery service of Branch libraries' books

You may apply delivery service for most books in Central Library, Mejiro Seibo Campus Library, Junior college division library. Moreover, you may receive requested material in any libraries listed above.

- Delivery service is provided for books only. Materials in research institutes and centers, materials in Law School Library, periodicals, reference materials, audio-visual materials, recommended books and browsing readers books in Junior college division library cannot be delivered.
- Apply the service from My OPAC online service. (See 9. My OPAC online service)

- We reserve material for 7 days. Please pick up material within 7 days.

 

9. My OPAC online service

You can check the list of your checkouts, make a reservation, extend circulation period and order delivery service from other libraries through My OPAC online service at home.

My OPAC online service can;

- Make a reservation for material checked out. Cancel the reservation.
- Request for delivery service
- Check the list of borrowed and requested material. Extend circulation period,
- For friends of the library status, you can change password of My OPAC online service.
- For graduate and undergraduate students, you can request to buy books.
- For faculty and graduate students, you can request photocopy service and apply to borrow books in other libraries.

- For students and faculty, please enter the password issued by ICT Office (Media center). For students of Junior college division, please enter the password of Sophia mail. If you forget the password, apply for reissue it.
- For friends of the library status, please register your email address at the circulation counter and please get the password issued by OPAC.

10. Lost book

If you lose (damage/ worn) book, please follow the procedure;

- Fill out lost material form and submit it to the circulation counter.
- After you submit the form, please bring in the same material you lost for its replacement. If material is out of print, you need to pay the same amount of material.
- Your borrowing privileges will be suspended until the procedure is completed.

 

11. Material cannot be found

Please ask staff in circulation counter if material cannot be found on the shelf.

12. Loan period in vacations

During summer vacation and spring vacation, we set longer loan period intended for users use materials at distant place.

- Undergraduate students (including auditing students, students of Junior college division, and students major in tocology)
- Graduate students, part-time/ temporary faculty

<Loan period and due date during vacation>
We set the due date for circulation during the vacation. Please see details for "library information" on HP.
