If you are 20 years old and above (except for a student of other University) and a resident of Chiyoda ward possessing Chiyoda ward library card, you can use Central Library for research purpose. You cannot use library for your profit. You need to register and become a friend of Sophia University library at first.

1. Services

• Browsing materials in Central Library (you can copy materials within Copyright law)
• Check-out books up to 5 for 2 weeks
• Reference services (except for issuance of a letter of introduction/ document delivery/ determining whether an item is in the collection by phone)

You cannot use materials/ facilities listed below;

• Rare materials, micro materials, CD-ROM, online databases
• Computer rooms, research institutes and research rooms

2. Service hours

Please check Central Library opening hours at opening schedule on library homepage. You cannot use the library from 1 week before the start of University regular examination (January and July) until its end.

3. Registration

• Present your Chiyoda ward library card and a document that proves your address, name, and age (copy of certificate of residents, driver’s license, or health issuance card) at circulation counter during its opening hours. We don’t accept after 17:00 on Saturdays nor Sundays.
• Fill in necessary information to registration form.
• Please accept bank remittance form and “Admission for Friend of Sophia University Library”.
• Pay annual fee with the bank remittance form. If you use ATM, please enter the number listed in the form which starts from L.
• Bring receipt of remittance/usage detail statement issued by bank, and your face photo (4.5cm×3.5cm).
• We issue a Library card on the day if you register by 16:00 on Monday through Friday, otherwise we issue the card the other day. Having all necessary documents, you can receive one-day user’s pass for that day and browse materials in the library (no check-out/ reference services).
